An excerpt from a typical "Glossary" section in the event rules:

Cemetery - A place reserved for burial of the dead.

Family marker - A marker indicating the burial of more than one person in a family, or identifying the family name with no individual names.

Family plot - A group of markers in close proximity, usually including a family marker, that indicates the burial of individuals related by birth or marriage.

Fire number - A number on a small sign used to uniquely identify a property.

Gate - An obvious vehicle or pedestrian entrance, regardless of the existence of a physical gate.

Headstone - A marker made of marble, granite, limestone or other stone-like material that indicates the burial location of a single person.

Main gate - The biggest, most central, or most obvious gate. A sign with the cemetery name, an arch over or columns surrounding a gate is indicative of the main gate, and more substantial or ornamental gates, arches, columns or signs beat less substantial ones.

Marker - A physical structure that indicates the past or future burial location of a person or persons. The location of the marker is considered to be the location of the persons for the purpose of determining proximity. The placement of more than one name on a marker does not indicate the relative placement of individuals. All persons are considered to be in equal proximity to the marker, unless individual headstones indicate otherwise. For instance, a name on the left does not indicate burial on the left.

Nickname - A secondary name that appears on a marker or ornament, often in quotes, that indicates that a person was called by an alternate name.

Ornament - An object attached to or in close proximity to a marker to embellish it visually or to provide information. Ornaments include photographs, engravings, flower stands, veteran medallions or added sculptures.

Outside - If the cemetery name is followed by the word "outside", the question must be answered from outside the cemetery. You might need to walk along the outside edge of the cemetery, or look around the adjacent church or town hall, until you find the answer.

Roster - A printed list of names of people buried in a cemetery, usually found on a sign or kiosk.

Shamrock - A three-leaf clover.

Tombstone - A permanent marker made of marble, granite, limestone or other stone-like material. A wooden cross is an example of what is not a tombstone.
